comment SSH without password (shared home folder)
It would be helpful if you went into some more detail about the problems you allude to.

comment Bad owner or permissions on /root/.ssh/config in a virtual machine
This doesn't in any way answer the question of how to configure ssh so that it doesn't complain about the permissions of his key folder.

comment How do I “unlock” sudo for 15 mins after login?
the length of the sudo timeout wasn't really the point of the question but thanks for answering :P

@Tom Wijsman: allowing remote root logins is considered harmful by some.

comment Is there any GUI tool to configure /etc/fstab?
It seems like this package has now been removed from Debian/Ubuntu as its out of date - doesn't support UUIDs for example.

comment Why do I get random page scrolls in VIM (gvim)?
its definitely not that in this case because I am using my laptop as a desktop with a keyboard and a mouse (and the touch pad is switched off).

Its plain X. It used to work in the past. Dunno if gvim or the window manager is the one that does this.

comment Is SSD better than Superfetch?
Depending on the applications being run you can easily go over 4GB with e.g. firefox + a game. I would go for 8GB + SSD (in fact that's exactly what i've done). User10547 I'm not sure YOU'RE clear on things.

comment Use Internet Explorer 6 and 7 in Virtual Box
is there anyway to fix the activation warnings? I am happy for it to expire after 3 months, but I could do without the 3-day activation limit and the concomitant restarting every hour or whatever

comment on windows 7, vpn'ing to work, how to force all traffic to use VPN?
That blanket statement is not correct. What goes through the VPN (or not) is entirely a matter of your routing configuration. In windows XP there is an option to choose whether all of your traffic goes through the vpn or just traffic on the same network segment. I am not sure if this option exists on windows 7 or what its equivalent is.
