@Breakthrough cool. I assume without a second laptop there's no way to tell whether the motherboard slot is bad or the RAM is bad?

I am not sure under what circumstances problems would arise. Presumably a poorly overclocked system might also operate normally most of the time.

thanks. just to clarify, given that I have two pairs of RAM, I assume this means it's wise to match the pairs with each other as well (eg 4 sticks of micron)?

@LordTorgamus The primary annoyance of my method is that if I apply it, then alter the graphic in any way, I then have to do the process over again, since it isn't dynamic (the way that a stroke or a dropshadow is dynamically updated when you adjust a path). What I'm doing seems like kind of a hack and I'm just wondering if there's a smarter alternative.
