@JanDoggen Thanks for suggesting that. I tried the Eicar anti-malware test file and it appears that MSE will indeed prompt if the option mentioned by kreemoweet is unchecked. I initially thought that this won't allow prompting because of the unclear description of the option.

comment Microsoft Security Essentials: Does it scan emails?
@UmberFerrule I believe that Google Public DNS does not have a feature that allows it block dodgy (malware, phishing, etc.) URLs.

I did that, but I too can't confirm if it works yet, as MSE is still to detect malware in my computer.

comment How can I tell if one defrag utility is better than another?
I'm leaning towards PerfectDisk because of personal experience (was better at optimizing the hard disk compared to other defraggers I've tried) and because of its defragmentation method: SMARTPlacement is PerfectDisk's patented default method that defragments all files, consolidates free space, and optimizes the drive according to file usage. It provides the most complete defragmentation possible and slows down refragmentation of the drive. It also has a free version last time I checked: neowin.net/news/…

comment How can I block social share buttons in webpages
I can confirm that Ghostery is able to block social media elements. See these screenshots of Ghostery's options page: i.imgur.com/PxxRl.png and i.imgur.com/yOEbj.png.
