comment Can I have direct access to wi-fi (i.e. wlan0 device) in virtual machine running on Windows host?
AFAIK, it's the same on VMWare. The network interface has to be virtualized, except for some of their ESX setups, which are different from the desktop software and require very specific server hardware. They have something called VMDirectPath I/O that lets you basically pass PCI devices directly to the VM.

comment VirtualBox webserver not accessbile on host browser
It sounds like the Linux server is running on 80 and you're forwarding that to 4444 on the Windows host so you can access from other machines? If so, 10.0.2.15:80 on the host machine should work, and host-machine-LAN-IP:4444 should work elsewhere on your physical network. Any particular reason for not using bridged networking?

comment OS X Lion working with SMB mounts modifying permissions etc. on mounted server?
That'll be using SMB. After some trouble with Lion's SMB server (not the client), I set up that Linux box and gave up on SMB totally. One thing you can try though, and I don't remember exactly how this works, but tell your admin to ensure that the Linux FS permissions for your user match the permissions assigned in the SMB server, and that the proper create mask and directory masks are set for all users. This might be what's tripping Lion up.
