Quick Image Editing tools for MacOS Not sure how old your MacBook is, but have you tried Preview, the built in viewer app on OS X? Even the older versions should be able to handle cropping and exporting. |

High CPU usage by virtualbox running windows 2003 in Linux host That's a good tip. Keep in mind it will limit Windows to a single virtual core though. Another good link for improving Windows VM performance: blog.jdpfu.com/2010/06/22/virtualbox-performance-improved The network tip has helped me a lot for a network-heavy VM, and the SATA tip is a VERY noticeable improvement. |

Browsing website hosted in the virtual machine from host machine's browser Also, check which port your server is running on. Web servers traditionally use port 80. I'm not familiar with IIS, but it may be configured to use a different port number by default in a development environment. If it's running on a different port, such as 8080, you'll have to put 192.168.1.11:8080 into the browser. |

Browsing website hosted in the virtual machine from host machine's browser Your internet connection shouldn't affect this. Assuming you're not on dialup, your physical machine (the host) should have an internal IP address (within your local area network). The VM and host IPs should not match exactly, but if you have the adapter in bridged mode, they should both be on the same subnet, with the fist 3 parts of the addresses matching, but not the last. If your host is 192.168.1.10 and the VM is 192.168.1.11, putting 192.168.1.11 in your host's browser should work.If the IPs are not on the same subnet, there might be some other problem on your network. |

Port Forwarding not working This could be caused by having your modem's WAN side web interface enabled. Check and make sure that it's turned off for WAN, but enabled for LAN. Some modems come with both WAN and LAN web interfaces enabled. Enabling the WAN side is a bad idea whether or not you're trying to run your own web server. |

How to find my stolen Macbook Thanks for pointing this out. I didn't even realize OS X lets you create an account without a password :S. I assumed he meant that Auto Login was enabled. You can make the script set a password for her account before running the necessary commands, using do shell script "dscl . -passwd /Users/Username '' newpassword". The '' represents the current password (empty string). Keep in mind that if Auto Login is not enabled, this will lock the thief out of the machine. |
