comment what is the best backup solution for 400GB?
@leora Either you backup remotely (e.g. via ssh, rsnapshot can do that, for instance) or you retrieve it regularly. Of course not every day; e.g. you can clone your external backup drive every two weeks onto the remore one and bring it back to the ”safe place”.

Two 500GiB (or 1500GiB) hard drives? E.g. alternating each day and you never lose more that two day's data (assuming no more than two drives die at at same time).

comment Increase Firefox Speed?
I did that. It's slightly faster (for me). It might pay off when you have a rather slow HDD; on SSD I would say it's not worth the effort.

-1 for suggesting to rasterize a (possible) vector image. That's not the way to go.

If you are using pdftex (or luatex) then go for the pdf output. You have to convert the files otherwise.

comment What is the preferrable way to archive a private DVD collection?
When you decide to backup to .iso images and you use a player not supporting those, you can always mount the images and directly access the content. It works with every player.

comment Finding out if a FLAC or WAVPACK audio file is NOT originally encoded from a lossy source
@TheGuyOfDoom Simply because there is no absolutely reliable way to tell. But the programs can be used as an indicator, which is better than nothing.

comment Repair Ubuntu after unsuccesful upgrading
Boot a live system from CD or USB drive and mount your hard drive(s). Then you can fix the system or restore your backup that you were advised to make before a major system upgrade.

comment Vim - dynamic list of open buffers in a window
The only condition that is not met is that the list is on the left. I agree, MiniBufExplorer is at the top (where it doesn't waste as much space as on the left). Or maybe I misunderstood your requirements.
