comment Why won't `date` accept it's own default output?
I don't know what Arch does, but it should be pretty straightforward to download and build coreutils yourself and see if a vanilla build exhibits the same behavior.

Same format. Works for me also on vanilla builds of coreutils 8.24 and 8.25. Maybe your Linux distro added some patches that change this behavior.

Works for me with the date from coreutils 8.4. Maybe your date is buggy, or some other implementation.

comment Why does blocking sites through hosts file break HTTPS?
I tried the hosts file you referenced in Chrome 48, and I can't reproduce the behavior you describe. All the sites you listed show no errors, and I can see things in the host file being blocked. What do you see in the Network tab in developer tools when an element gets blocked?

comment How do I specify the key exchange method in OpenSSH?
According to RFC 4253, Section 8.1, "[group1] MUST be supported for interoperability as all of the known implementations currently support it." So mainly to ensure backward compatibility at the time the RFC was written (2006), but group14 would be selected over group1 in any non-ancient client nowadays.

comment Does Microsoft still have a link to download IE10 for Windows 7?
@Nick Actually, the bits do refer to IE. 32-bit Windows can only run 32-bit IE, but 64-bit Windows can run either (or even both at the same time).

comment Unzip .gz file when line order is important
gzip won't reorder your data, so something else is going wrong in your system.

comment Why do wget and curl fail to download page source?
curl and wget both work fine for me. Maybe you need to specify proxy settings?

If on a desktop browser, consider upgrading your video drivers and/or try disabling hardware acceleration in your browser settings.

comment Setting up a virtual Com Port?
You might be able to use com0com as one piece of an overall solution, though you'd need a program to provide an interface between the USB and TCP.

comment How did iTunes install itself?
Most likely it's a result of something done by your IT people (maybe they don't even realize it). As such, it's something they need to look into, and not really a question well-suited for this forum.

comment What are the benefits of keeping Caps Lock on after swapping with CTRL?
Kind of depends how often you type in all-caps... I just make Caps Lock an extra Ctrl and remap Scroll Lock to Caps Lock.

What OS are you on? Are you using an unusual version of tail?

comment How does google know where I am behind socks proxy?
If you search for "what is my ip" on Google, the search engine itself should tell you what it thinks your IP is. If it's really your IP, then you've probably set up your proxy incorrectly, in which case you should post screenshots of what your network settings are.

@Mike On the other hand, C-a and M-d are much faster to type if your hands are already in typing position.

comment Ubuntu Server 14.04 stops responding
It's probably a hardware or driver issue. Since hardware is harder to swap in and out, you might try checking for driver updates, or downgrade to an older Linux distro if it's an older machine (newer distros were probably never tested on your older hardware). Also see if there's any optional boards installed that you can remove or whatever. These kinds of problems are always annoying to troubleshoot... good luck.
