comment Change default Win explorer “view” for a portable media device
Thanks for this! Could you give more info on exactly what you're doing? This seemed to work at first and made my portable device default to "detail view" for every folder. But it also did the same thing for all internal disks in my PC, which I did not want. When I reverted them back to list view as I prefer, the mobile device reverted back to icon view and refused to remember future changes (unless, I assume, I edited the registry again).

It's a Nexus 7 (the newest one), and I've tried it on the device itself, the first root folder within ("internal storage") and even folders much deeper in that tree such as the DCIM folder which holds the digital camera shots.

I should have been more clear... the way I do it on a normal drive is to use Tools > View > Apply to Folders as a way to propagate down through all child folders recursively. However, that button is greyed out for my portable media device! Also, the "customize" menu you show is not available for the device or any of root folders within, no matter how deep I go.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. :-/ +1 for the answer regardless.

comment How to have Firebug only open in one tab
That does seem to work. Although if I later activate FB manually in two tabs, then those two tabs always activate if I activate it anywhere. Essentially meaning I may have to utilize your clear activation list button frequently. Still, better than nothing!

Thanks, but it already is set to none. :-( I never set that manually, so I wonder if it's related to the option I mentioned in my OP. The weirdest part about all of this is the undesired behavior is not consistent. If I have 10 tabs open, all different URL's, Firebug will open in maybe 5 of them (for example) when I want it open in one.

After reading this and this I tried disabling my hardware acceleration and it seems to have done the trick. This makes no sense though because in those threads people were reporting the opposite (that turning acceleration ON fixed their problem). Moreover, it is stupid that I should have to have acceleration disabled. :-/

Ah very good, how did you located the problem so quickly? I see the JS now that controls this, now that I know what to look for. :-) Thanks!

comment Windows XP “open with” not allowing a custom option
Thanks, unfortunately I don't have admin privs on the computer in question. I'm getting around the problem by just not moving the folder. Actually, that computer has since been upgrade to Win7 (still don't have admin privs), but I put the folder where I wanted it to stay forever, the first time I ran the program. :-) I'll upvote you because it sounds like good info, but I don't think portable programs should NEED to be registered, that is kind of essential to the portable thing.

comment Excel quirk: Will not create graph from certain data
No, I know how to get them back (turn error checking on). What I mean is that simply changing the cell "format" to number does not fix the problem as "technique 3" seems to imply. The only real option is #1, which requires the "convert" button, which only seems available through the error checking menu (which I previously had disabled). Which seems kind of lame. The worst part is if you change format to number, you can do math on those cells, so obviously excel is aware of their numerical values. Yet STILL refuses to plot them (actually, you can do math even with "general" format!).

Thanks, of course you are correct. The most frustrating part is that "Technique 3" from the link you posted did not work in this case. In fact I had been trying that method several times before making this post. "Formatting" the cells as numbers does not fix the issue. As far as the error checking boxes, I disabled that a long time ago as I got sick of seeing green triangles everywhere, which I realize makes me look stupid right about now. So in the future I know I can turn that on in a situation like this to enable the "convert" option since it seems not to be available anywhere else?

comment How to disable javascript modal popup ads
Yeah, seems like the only valid option I've found. Not sure I have the patience though to add tons of legit sites to the whitelist. The great thing about ABP were the filter subscriptions.

I tried to open it in SQL Developer using file > open and it is just kind of frozen on a grey screen. Is there another method I should be using?

@Steve314 I created a 1,000,000 line file as an output from my Java program. You are right, Notepad++ can open it. But SQL Developer does not seem to be succeeding... I tried to open it like 10 minutes ago and it is still just sitting there with a grey screen.
