comment If I acquire a USB QR/barcode scanner, can I set it to automatically launch a browser upon reading a URL?
I looked into some projects based on a :CueCat scanner many years ago. There was information on how to grab the data using a simple script, but the main thing was that they seemed to act like a keyboard. It essentially typed the numbers and sent an enter when it was done. Maybe something like that would work well for your project?

comment I can't get an IP address from a VirtualBox VM on OSX from some routers (ie Internet cafes)
If they have a landing page that you need to sign into or otherwise authenticae through then I would lean towards MAC filtering of some sort.

comment How can I use encryption with Gmail?
I'm interested in the solutions to this as well. I've wanted to start using email encryption but it seems there is poor support for it at all outside of 3rd party clients, if at all. I was looking into it for use with Outlook 2010 and just didn't want to try as hard as it seemed was required to even make it function.

comment How to manually move files on physical hard drive?
If you're running windows 7 the regular defrag process will do a decent job of optimizing their placement. Without checking up on it, I think fragments of 64kb in size for large files will perform optimally even if each chunk is scattered all over the place. Not sure if the defragmenter worked this way in Vista as well.

comment How can I extend my usb keyboard/mouse by 15m or troubleshoot my existing attempt?
Now that I look at those cables I see the active designation. The way the description was worded it sounded like a signal booster instead of the multiple hub method, so perhaps there are different kinds?
