comment Does a DVI-D source to VGA display converter exist at all?
The device claims to work with dvi-d. The physical layout of the female dvi connector needs to be dvi-i, otherwise it can't work with dvi-i outputs, and you need one converter for dvi-i and one for dvi-d.

comment SSH Tunnel doesn't work in China
DNS might not be properly sent through the tunnel, try checking for unencrypted packets with Wireshark when browsing.

comment I just ordered 70/10 internet service, and need a new router I think?
802.11n allows to take up large parts 2.4 GHz ISM spectrum for transfer rates around 150 Mb/s per antenna, there is no requirement to use the 5 GHz frequencies.

comment Reducing hard disk access of kvm
It finds files that were modified less than 60 minutes ago. You could try sudo find / -xdev -cmin -5 or so at least 5 minutes after booting? -xdev makes it not descend into /proc and /sys &c.

comment I'm compiling a modified Linux kernel in Ubuntu; can I recover from a corrupted kernel if I boot into recovery mode?
Oh. Sorry about the noise. Different distros, different tools ;)

comment Reducing hard disk access of kvm
Which system has swap disabled? How much memory is available to the host and the guest? Is the guest run directly from a block device or a virtual disk file? How are partitions mounted in the guest? Could you check if there are files changing in the guest file system with something like find / -cmin -60?

comment How to Find Out Who Made an ISO Disk?
To emphasise your point and avoid confusion; these properties are all set in the ISO image, by whoever prepares that, so they can not be used to identify who created the disk.

comment Why doesn't Gzip compression eliminate duplicate chunks of data?
This lrzip looks interesting. It even has an author known for non-traditional solutions. Now I'll have to revise my backup scripts. Again.

comment Why doesn't Gzip compression eliminate duplicate chunks of data?
@Guido Of course nothing can remove duplicates of something it doesn't remember in a stream, but try something like xz -9 -M 95%, or even xz -M 95% --lzma2=preset=9,dict=1610612736. It won't be fast, but your duplicates are unlikely to be left in the result.
