comment What downsides are there to running an OS off of a flash drive instead of a hard drive (USB 3.0 and 2.0)
@DaveM - While speed is one factor, and based on the answers appears to be the most significant one, I was curious about anything on a flash drive impacting OS performance, not just read/write speed.

Oh, I was thinking about the read/write speed, but I forgot about the wear. Guess I'll probably end up just installing portable programs on it instead.

comment how to prevent local user from rebooting/shutting down when i'm ssh'd in?
Oh, I see. Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were questioning the concept of other methods besides a command line reboot.

I mean from the menu in the GUI. Or is this a distro without a GUI? I don't have a ton of experience with the various flavours of Linux.

Even if you could get it installed, would any of the downloaded packages work?

Does this apply to all methods of shutting down, or just the command line?

If you open a text document, type some stuff, and leave it open, won't it prompt to save it before it shuts down? If you type something like "I'm SSH'd in, DON'T SHUT DOWN!", he'll see that if he tries to shut it down.

I think if you hover over the Steam icon it will say what it is downloading.

comment How to get google chrome to stop changing the address I enter?
My chrome did this the other day. It's never done it before, but when I tried to go to a website, it searched it in google instead. Very odd.

comment How to find out why Fedora will not resume
Ah, well it's probably not the same issue, then. That's actually a good thing, it means you may have a chance at fixing it!

comment How to find out why Fedora will not resume
Well, I meant the brand, actually. I had an HP computer, and because they use some proprietary drivers which Fedora was unable to acquire, it had a similar issue. It would go to sleep, but wouldn't wake up. Fortunately, it booted/shut down so fast it wasn't really an issue.

comment Select firefox search result
As it is now, pressing enter when the search is highlighting a link will select that link. That's one of the things I miss, which I wish Chrome had.
