I'm a geek. I'm Wednesday's little sister.

comment Can't align in Beyond Compare
I had hinted at that in my answer to myself, but you explained it more clearly -- I was asking how to do something I shouldn't do.

Are there any quotes within quotes, and should these be treated differently?

comment How to make new Office Communicator session pop up in Windows 7
Too bad I'm at a new job that doesn't even have communicator. But thank you anyway, because I'm sure others will find that useful!

comment On a company network, in Outlook 2007, can you add your own phone number to the global address book?
Make that an answer, and I'll accept it (after getting the admin to update the info, of course).

Does a ordinary user have access to AD? How would I get to and change the info there?

comment Best console editor for writing a … novel? :)
Are you planning on publishing the novel in the traditional way? Or even as an e-book? Consider the publisher requirements, because they'll trump whatever you want to use.

comment What can cause Internet connection to randomly fail?
There were some good suggestions when I asked a similar question at superuser.com/questions/392619/…. I had a wall of books between my router and computer that didn't help, although that certainly wasn't the only problem.

This is really something the MS Chat helper should have pointed out.

I had checked my own junk email box, but it had never gotten that far.

@Kruug - make that an answer and I'll accept it. That appears to have been what happened. Since others here have MSDN, it seemed unlikely that an email from the domain microsoft.com would be blocked.

Hmm...I'll go ask. It seems unlikely, but I'd better check anyway.

Reset Folders wasn't available for me (was greyed out) until I started when I was on the C: drive, not a subdirectory.

+1 for comment on equipment manufacturers who don't care about users with modern computers!

I bet the floor to ceiling books aren't helping in this case either. :( I got it to kind of work, but it's still not great.

Unfortunately, if you don't know hardware, you don't know what is useful and what isn't. Or even how to ask a good question.

The orientation of the box has changed -- I'll try moving the box to the same orientation tonight. If that helps, I'll accept the answer -- the right answer to the wrong question.

comment How to undo an accidental drag and drop
Control-Z made me happy. Turning on the menu and setting the View Status bar and seeing exactly what I am doing, that is even nicer. That was worth waiting an hour for. Now I'll have to ask the same question about Outlook, although when I last accidentally dropped a folder there, I didn't notice for some time, until I tried to put something in a folder that I KNEW was there. (I must be too sloppy.)

comment Why does my mouse's LED not turn off when I shut down the PC?
@Shinrai, I agree with your original point: it does no harm. However I've read that the little bit of energy used on the sleeping computer, the laptop, the DVD player, the TV, and all those other electronics is actually adding up to a huge power drain that can be noticeable in even a single household. Perhaps most of us don't have sufficiently modern stuff, and many don't turn their electronics off at all. I have coins on the lights on the keyboard for my (turned-off) computer because the light it generates at night is enough to light up the room. (Guess I should turn it off at the strip!)
