comment Windows 7 - Virtualbox host only adapter doesn't get an IP
This was the answer for me. I couldn't figure out why my Windows host wasn't able to access the web server on the host-only IP of my Linux guest, but when I set the IP of the host-only adapter to an IP in the subnet that the Linux guest reported, all was well.

comment Mapping Left Alt key in Vim?
I've found this particularly helpful. I use lxterminal and want to map my alt key in vim. In the terminal, when I typed Ctrl-V and then my desired key combo (Alt-T, for instance), it spat out ^[t. I used this in my .vimrc instead of <A-t> to perform the mapping (^[ of course being the single escape character) and it performed flawlessly. (^[^T also correctly binds Ctrl+Alt+T)

comment How do I align the bottom edges of two monitors with xrandr?
Thanks, this makes a lot of sense! I think you want to replace 1600 with 1080 in your example, though.

Heh, figured this out right before you posted. Would you be able to explain how the --pos flag works?
