Windows Administrator and Network Support technician for CQG, Inc in Denver Colorado. I hail from Texas and if I can help I am usually happy to do so as well as to pick up a few new tricks myself.

comment Reset Chrome download manager to default
The user CLEARLY wanted to go NO plugin NO addin. He wanted Chrome reset to default behavior. What was so hard to grasp about that?

HORRIBLE answer. You give work arounds vs the actual solution. This will not serve you well in the IT world.

I recognize that and I feel made a succinct point that such is not the case nor is it going to BE the case. Codec or not, some types of files will play better in other players. I did not specify Classic except as in a general note. You will also find other files will really only properly play in the player they include with various Codec Packs like the CCCP with the Zoom Player for MKV files. You over inferred from what I said.

Even with proper codecs I have seen more than one file that worked better in the "Classic" Player that it came with. I'd say if you find one it works ok in that's your "solution".

comment Wiring my own RJ45 sockets - issues with a paticular outlet not negotiating at 1GB
This is definitely the correct kind of cable but I have never heard the solid core description before. Perhaps I just learned something :) Aside from that though yes you have the right stuff. The cable is composed of 4 pairs of cables twisted together in either a shielded or unshielded sheath.

comment Dell Bluetooth driver - Invalid DFU file format
Yes it certainly does appear to be the same driver. I'd say get me those Hardware IDs and let's see if we can look it up directly. And again make sure all the chipset and MB drivers are in or I could easily see this driver failing due to a "dependancy"

As for solid core??? Surely don't mean COAX?? The type of cable this type of jack is for would NOT be solid core (at least I've never heard it referred to that way) it's twisted pair. Solid Core "sounds" like COAX or some other similar type.

comment Can a vm be a reliable test machine?
We use them extremely frequently for my developers. I won't say you will NEVER run into an issue that was based in the VM vs a physical machine but that is a simple reality for today's world.

comment Fixing sticky keyboard keys
Seriously, unless there is something obnoxiously special about this keyboard (in which case that should have been noted to start) then stop wasting your time dealing with an FRU. Replace and move on. Even if there IS something special about this keyboard, unless a like replacement is gunna be exorbitant or you are just THAT broke, replace it and stop wasting your time here :)

comment Can RAM just go bad?
I once told a mentor at work... "But... it was just working. It couldn't JUST have gone bad!" He ever so casually replied, "When things do go bad - they frequently worked and one point then not at another... having literally "just" gone bad." There wasn't a lot to say back to that :)

comment Dell Bluetooth driver - Invalid DFU file format
Just in case, I looked it up for you. Seems they only offer the one Bluetooth option on this guy - dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/… Make sure he is using that one and you should be good to go. If he is using that one, Post the Hardware IDs from the Device Properties and I can help you look it up to see what else it might be.

Are you SURE it is the correct driver? If so, specifically which driver is it. I can use my premier account to verify if you can include his service tag :)

comment What is better oil for oiling fans: grapeseed or refined?
I still aim to peep those brands. Maybe I am missing out cuz I have never met a single fan that was "quiet enough". LOL
