comment “Discovering items”… yawn
This works great, not only with directories under the same drive letter. I had this issue of Win7 insisting on "discovering" items on my USB drive, then coming up with a completely fabricated progress bar despite no progress being made, before it finally decided that it couldn't find any files on my USB drive. The next time you plug it in, it claims there are errors on it and wants to scan the drive (even though my Linux machine and others can access everything just fine). So I now have a "transfer" folder and a little batch file to copy that folder's contents to my USB. Works like a charm.

comment How to stop Microsoft Office apps ignoring click on unfocused window
I'd love to see a solution for this as well. Unfortunately, the "solution" that works great for me at home (using LibreOffice instead of MS) ins't an option at work.

comment Issue with microsoft websites browsing
This reminds me of when MSN deliberately served bad stylesheets to Opera users (at least when they didn't change their user agent string) to make Opera look like it couldn't display the site properly. Opera raised a stink about it (and rightly so) and, in response, released the Opera "bork" edition both as a joke and to make a point. It was absolutely hilarious to read MSN with everything sounding like it was said by the Swedish chef from the Muppets :-D

Thanks for the upvotes I've received since my answer was un-accepted :-D

comment Any way to “ungroup” taskbar items in Windows 7?
Nice! I can definitely get used to some of these nifty little functions, like cycling between taskbar items, controlling volume when scrolling over the notification area, etc... and of course not grouping my taskbar items!

comment Where are the Vista/Win7 Volume Mixer settings stored?
For anyone looking to fix the bug where Windows "forgets" the individual volume settings of applications, look at the accepted answer to this question (it's marked as a duplicate but isn't, really, imho).

comment How to make Windows 7's volume mixer save individual volumes again?
I agree with @Keith, this should stand as a separate question. The OP of the other question wants to find out about PIDs, not about fixing the Windows bug where it "forgets" applications' individual volume settings. Don't let the fact that the same registry key is involved fool you....

comment Multiple passwords for same site in Opera
@Raystafarian: as a blanket statement, that's very inaccurate. I'm perfectly happy that my passwords are as secure in Opera as in my system in general. To view my passwords, Opera asks me to enter my system password, i.e. someone would either need access to my system locally and know my password, or hack through my firewall etc. (in which case any password manager wouldn't offer an additional challenge to the hacker). In fact, Chrome deliberately does not use a master password to avoid giving a "false sense of security" (Opera uses the same model).

comment How to stop “Do you want to scan and fix drive” message in Windows 7?
+1 for the correct answer, though people wanting to do this should be made aware that it will also disable AutoPlay functionality, i.e. only use this if you're happy to lose that.
