comment ntfs: finding all files sized at 64k intervals
Thanks. Added { Write-Host $_.LastWriteTime, $_.Length, $_.FullName } to get a better idea of what's happening (often, similar timestamps help link effects to a single event...to group a whole class of files as "damaged/suspect").

comment How to search for files modified after a particular time?
I was looking for something that identifies only files modified in the last hour (no matter when typed in), but date:today type:file seems to be the best it could offer.

comment Is it a good idea to use compressed NTFS filesystem on an external harddisk?
ntfs-3g -V: 2013.1.13AR.1 As of Ubuntu 14.10, kernel 3.16, I still can not vouch for ntfs-3g's ability to even properly read compressed files on my Win8 GPT partition. Even copying a file over results in a different md5sum.

comment Cannot successfully configure OpenSSH via CYGWIN in Windows 2008
cports from nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html helps me easily find used network ports. As does processhacker.sourceforge.net , I use both regularly during development.

comment 8GB stick thinks it's a 4GB one
This lower-level format/init tool helped restore the full factory 8GB capacity to a USB stick, when the above naive high-level partition reformat kept it at only 4GB.

comment boot Windows from GRUB rescue
Unknown command 'rootnoverify(hd0,0)'. So next I need to find which grub-rescue command loads the module for rootnoverify?

comment adding XP Recovery Console boot item onto another disk
That was to come up sooner or later. The XP setup CD doesn't offer it when it is needed--only to delete/overwrite the partition, no Repair Install option either. Still, embedding the Recovery Console into the harddisk as a boot option (independent of CD or USB drives) is its own question.

comment test of ICMP block
Okay, except nmap -PN -T4 -p 80 sgasdfoogle.com || date doesn't execute date as desired; apparently the exit code is still 0 when hostname can't resolve (or reachable?)

comment test of ICMP block
Good tool, but doesn't seem universal. I would have to deploy on each Ubuntu/cygwin server I have control over. Looking for a more portable way.

comment delete only first hit /match with sed
In your sed solution, would it still work if "AsometAhingA" was the SECOND or later line, with "A" not happening anywhere prior?
