I've been around computers since the Commodore 64 was still being sold.
I've played around with ms-dos, windows 3.1,95,98,xp,visa,7,and 8
Windows 7 is my OS of choice

I do own a Mac and it's got Mac OS Lion on it, but I usually only use it when I'm working on iPhone app development.

I've played around with some flavors of Linux but still mostly a novice at it in general.

comment How do programs “decide” which network adapter to use?
well I know on the server version of windows there is a network card metrics option, so it's possible they still could have it as a group policy option on the desktop version.

comment XP pings router but can't ping the Internet
well if one of the devices is set to statically use an IP address then it wouldn't report that ip address is being used to the DHCP server so it would think that ip is open and thus might hand it out if it has enough active leases at the time. so I'd check for that, and if a device has a static private ip, then you need to set it to one outside the DHCP range, but still in the same subnet and that will stabilize everything.

comment Any way to “ungroup” taskbar items in Windows 7?
I got mine set to "Never combine" already and it's still doping exactly what he says the problem is. Granted there are separate items for each window open. yet all my web browser windows are still grouped and all my im's are still groped and all my notepad windows are still groped and no way I can break the groups or even rearrange items within the the groups just the order of the groups. I'd downvote this if I could.
