A number of questions that might help figure out what's going on if Microsoft is not being helpful. Is it a retail, OEM, promotional, or upgrade version? Also, do you leave the system on all the time or shut it down regularly? Does the system time change at all? How old is this hardware? "Desktop Text disappears" is a rather odd thing to have happen, is there anything else "strange" that happens?

GUID don't change between machines. They are used to identify programs and set by the software vendor. If you scroll down the list, past the GUID's, you will find things identified by name. The GUID's are usually sub components of other things installed. for example, Adobe CS3 has one main entry with a name and a bunch of keys for the dozen or so components.
