I do computer stuff. I administer servers and networks, develop software and web pages, help ordinary users, process some 2d graphics etc. I'm really good at PostgreSQL, CentOS Linux/RHEL, C++ and IT security and know countless other IT technologies.

You can contact me at tometzky(at)ato.waw.pl.

comment combining SSD and hard disk in software RAID1?
+1. But remember that --write-behind is not safe, and because it needs a write-intent bitmap file external to the array it complicates setup and I wouldn't recommend it. --write-mostly is fine.

comment Internal 5.25" DC UPS
@nhinkle - why this is put on hold / closed? This is not a product recommendation question and it won't be obsolete in foreseeable future. This is a more like question "Why everybody does it in this, not optimal, way?"

Wow. Nice. Is it already a product or still a proof-of-concept sample?

comment Internal 5.25" DC UPS
A monitor I bought recently, LG IPS234V-PN, uses external power supply, which provide DC - like a laptop. It would not be hard to provide power from internal power supply also for the monitor.

comment Software Alternative to RAID for Home Use
You need good backup strategy, not a RAID. RAID is a high-availability solution, not disaster recovery.

comment Is there a modern browser that runs on Windows 3.1?
On modern Linux you can setup a virtual machine process for real-time scheduling using chrt --fifo qemu .... Also modern system will be hundreds times faster than 15-year-old one. I don't think there will be a problem with too slow reaction times.
