that is just the prompt you are talking about. you can do exit to leave the current prompt or do "source ~/.bashrc" or "source ~/.cshrc" to source default profile of your shell.

open this in your browser ppa.launchpad.net/sun-java-community-team/sun-java6/ubuntu/… you can see quantal(12.10 is not listed) perhaps you will have to use some other repository, otherwise browse inside the existing release folders, download .deb file and then install it
