comment FileZilla and Putty - Trouble connecting to a remote server
Had this issue. Turned out I was trying to connect to the local IP for SFTP, but using the proper public IP with SSH. That was dumb. I hope my stupidity helps someone, some day.

Thunderbolt is a proprietary interface. Only macs can use that. It will never take over from USB.

why would USB be gone in ten years? Is there something coming out that replaces it? It seems to have replaced everything else already (e.g. floppy drives, cd drives).

I've actually taken advantage of "flickr" for off-site photo backups. They have 100GB for free. It won't be enough to hold all my images forever, but for now it is ample. I am more concerned with my local backup.

To be brutally honest I generally wait until I have enough to justify filling a new backup, then I write everything to it. So it's one big write, then I never read from it again, hopefully.

Yes, it is a null route.

0.0.0.0, a null route, is better. If you're running your own web server you'll start to get 404s if your route to localhost.

comment How can I make a Windows PC bullet-proof for home users?
Can't agree with the chrome recommendation. Chrome is neither fast nor clean anymore. Try an unencumbered browser like firefox.

@Hennes Have you ever seen a how-to or anything on the subject of making an external drive internal?

Yeah mine's older and it has the 5-pin connectors. I'll accept this answer if no one proposes an internal solution.

That game looks cool. Is that deep space 9?

comment Why does 64-bit Windows need a separate “Program Files (x86)” folder?
Windows 3.1 didn't support long file names, so it wouldn't have been able to have a 'program files' folder.
