comment Show the encryption method used on a zip file in WinZip 9.0
The format of a ZIP file is published by PKWARE, e.g. at http://www.pkware.com/documents/casestudies/APPNOTE.TXT and this document gives the location and content of the encryption header(s).

comment disable thumbnail creating or move thumbnail directory with Fedora
Probably not if you never use nautilus (e.g. folder viewer). There is a range of issues about whether any fix should be to not have any thumbnails (the 'map to null' class of solution), not allow more thumbnails (the chmod class of solutions), prevent formation via gconf, select thumbnail creation per app, or discard thumbnails at the end of a session. This was discussed in detail in relation to eog in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/255030 and it may be helpful to read that discussion and review the patch.

Presumably the images are remote (if they are local you could create more home directory space by moving some to external storage) -- have you set Nautilus to only use thumbnails for local folders and only for small files?

comment Any faster scp or rsync?
Is the whole path from the local machine to the remote machine 100Mb/s? A network path cannot transfer data between two points faster than it can across the slowest link in the path. If you actually have a 100Mb/s path between them then are they close enough that you could just put the file on a USB stick and walk it to its destination?

Have you checked whether there is a BIOS upgrade available that could address this?

comment Use regression equation in excel formula
This should be possible if the functions are continuous. Are you just saying that the coefficients of the powers in the function definition vary? Presumably they vary according to another known funtion? Perhaps you could give an example?

comment How do I install fonts on Linux Mint?
If the font is a Truetype .ttf file then copying to a system fonts directory or your ~/.fonts should suffice. Other font types may be different. For example, an Opentype font may work with some programs but may not work with all (especially if it's a .otf file). Some programs will find it more easily if fc-cache is re-run and the application restarted.

comment Keyboard lights sometimes stay on after PC is powered off. Why?
Do you power off at the wall socket or just do a software shutdown? The former should remove all power from the machine (after a few seconds for capacitor discharge) unless you have a UPS. A software shutdown does not remove (all) power from the motherboard.

... and some webmail services, including gmail/googlemail, will give you the time and IP address of the last user each time you log in to the service.

comment Why did my friends get spams from my email?
@puri, I was only addressing whether an email claiming to be from you actually did come from your machine/email account. On whether a virus on your PC could send an email from your webmail account, I wouldn't say it's not possible to do it directly but the greater risk may be malicious software capturing log-in credentials to hi-jack the account, for example. Equally, an email appearing to come from you could be from somebody with access to your webmail account (e.g. through knowing or finding out the password or using a session that was not closed correctly).

comment Video encoding for archival
You probably realise this but you also need a policy to put the video onto appropriate media, keep backups (where needed and, though this shouldn't apply to home movies, allowed under licences) and to refresh copies and backups from time to time (including moving to current media before you don't have reader for the old media)

comment Text Terminal Hardware (for Linux)
Another computer can connect, usually via Ethernet or even serial, and run a remote session. So an old computer or a cheap laptop or netbook should be fine as you don't need any significant resources on it. As to just a screen and keyboard via USB -- other than an old aptop via a serial-USB conversion, I suspect that may be more expensive if it exists

type man bash and then look for the source command (within the bash man page search for 'SHELL BUILTIN COMMANDS' and it is usually shortly after that)

Have you checked the password on the router? Have you got 3 computers that cannot access the internet via the router? Are they all usually wireless connected?

comment ExtX file system on my usb key
Another reason for using extx2/3 is support for symbolic links. Doesn't matter for the odd file but if you want an untar'd collection of files that use these it can be important.
