Oct 11 comment Having trouble getting full 2560x1440 resolution output from a Mac Book Pro Unfortunately, the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter only goes to 1920x1200. From Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ): 2. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter? The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate. To be clear: That's not VGA's fault. ;^) Sep 21 awarded Good Answer Sep 21 awarded Yearling Jul 12 answered Show Windows 8 Taskbar with Touch Screen Mar 11 comment Outlook 2010: How to top-quote initial message I usually want to emphasize something in the email to which I'm replying, and respond directly to that edited content. Putting the quote on top helps accomplish that. Top-quoting is conventional enough that other major clients (eg, Thunderbird) provide it, and Outlook is scriptable enough I thought it'd be possible, if not in the settings somewhere. Gruber explains this practice exceptionally well. Feb 2 comment How do I find out what version of Linux I'm running? Quick explanation here -- 1. Draw a triangle using the [ Stars and Polygon Tool] Change the corners settings to 3 for a triangle. 2. Draw the tail using the [Rectangle tool]. Profit. I understand your point in a RAID, but the metric would seem to at least correlate strongly with poor performance, similar to what's described here. Idling your taxi does waste cash (engery.gov ppt). Nov 5 awarded Commentator Nov 5 comment Is there any 'sudo' command for Windows? @naxa Yeah, it's not exactly sudo. But you can change /user:Administrator to /user:YourLoginName and do the same thing as sudo, of course. Don't quite understand @surfasb 's comment. When would this bite you? I've successfully used this trick to edit files that are only editable by an admin (eg runas /noprofile /user:myUserName "C:\path\to\Vim\vim73\gvim.exe C:\some\file.cfg") Nov 5 comment Sublime Text 2 - Encoding UTF-8 Looks like it's "UTF-8 with BOM" for with BOM. Oct 16 comment How do I find the encoding of the current buffer in vim? Probably worth mentioning that BOMs are 1.) Not unique to UTF-8 -- though UTF-8's is distinct from other BOMs, 2.) Not required and often not found in UTF-8. Oct 3 comment How does parity work on a RAID-5 array? It was easy to "feel" that you already had (drives - 1)/drives of your information even without the parity on a single drive failure, but the explanation here makes the reason obvious. If you have n-1 drives' worth of bits from your XOR equation, comparing an XORing of the n-1 to your parity bit will always tell you if the "lost" bit is switched on or not. Nicely done. (Understanding RAID 6, heaven help me.) Oct 2 awarded Yearling
