comment PDF - removing usage restrictions
qpdf works very well. There is a convenient pre-built Windows binary, which is a plus.

comment ssh password authentication: use a graphical prompt?
You may be able to store the username and password as part of the repository URL. See stackoverflow.com/questions/14000173/… . Note that the password will be stored in your .gitconfig as plain text, so make it a different password from all your other passwords.

comment How do I use grep to search subdirectories too?
For future readers: many command line programs, apart from grep, also support the option "work with all sub-files and sub-folders", and that option is nearly-always called --recursive or -r or -R.

comment How to limit number of characters per line in MIcrosoft Word 2011?
That's an odd requirement and I'm not aware of any way to achieve hard line wrapping (\n) in MS Word. Generally hard line wrap is a feature reserved for programmer's text editors like Notepad++. Does he want 80-character lines specifically, or is he really trying to enforce limits on font size and margins?

For future readers - power supply issues are a common cause of "random re-starting under heavy load". Replacing the power supply, possibly with a higher-wattage model than the original, will often solve the problem.
