comment Memory and CPU optimizers: Are they gimmicks?
Yep, I'm a developer. I could see no way how a 3rd party app can change the behaviour of an app - the only way to make use of cores etc - because the application code would need to change. Seems like the company is trying to target non-techies.

comment Power cut while cutting and pasting a file
Hi, yes the power came back 2 mins later. The file is still in the original source location and same size (so copying all of it again). I could test this with a small installer app but didn't think of this till after.

comment How to identify if NIC supports VLAN ID
Even then, it seems like I may not be in luck. When you say any ethernet card made in the last 10 will support vlans, does that also go for wireless cards and VLAN IDs?

comment How to identify if NIC supports VLAN ID
Are you sure? I saw screenshot of a device in device manager and it had a property in Advanced for VLAN ID. My broadcom device has a property in Advanced called No Description with a value of 11. Is this the VLAN ID?

comment How to keep below my bandwidth download cap and why does my ISP have such a huge difference in reported downloads from my monitor?
What's wrong with the post? I don't have issues with my monitor, just wondering if there's any better ones, but I'd like to understand the difference in reports.

This is what I was wondering too (activation).

I have a dedicated vid card too, so want to scrap the integrated one altogether. How can I find out which devices are using memory?

comment 4.00GB (3.25GB usable) in Windows 7 x64
My BIOS doesn't have this option :( It thus seems like I have 2 choices - BIOS upgrade/flash, and if that fails, mobo upgrade.

I've checked this. Max memory is not checked and thus greyed and set to 0.

This seems like my only option, but I hate the intrusiveness. Oh well.

I run my VMs on a 2nd HD (7200rpm, 64mb cache). I'm aware of the issue of 32 bit OS/4gb RAM.

I am planning to deploy Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. This just won't be a one weekend job but gradual as I need to keep my current dev environment running so I will use a VM, convert to virtual hard drive, and roll out to host.

comment Windows OS - well maintaining
What's wrong with having autoplay on? Although I can imagine it may use resources for the little thing it does.
