comment Problems installing .ppd files (PERL) from CronW v2.0
You don´t need to worry about this, as this is the default setting. The default "ppm repository" is the one set by ActiveState.

It took me a while to put all down, but I just did that sort of things for years and it was painful watch you struggling ;)

comment Freebsd pkg init by script
What version did you just install ? For FreeBSD 10.0, the pkg bootstrapping should be (almost) automatic. For former releases, you just set your make.conf, get the "pkg" package first and doing the pkg2ng.

comment error in /usr/share/perl5/iCal/Parser/HTML.pm on debian
You are right. Even the "latest" version have this issue (4 years old) - this module seems to not have been tested properly.

comment When installing a VM, is there a difference between installing it in a separate partition on the same hard disk?
This might be true for 1 platter disk and big un-fragmented files, but VM are more about random access. So no real measurable impact on performance.

comment ZFS vs existing filesystem for SD-card
@mb21 Either way, the best you can got around here for Mac OS X and ZFS is beta. If you want stable ZFS, go for Solaris-like, FreeBSD or maybe Linux.

comment ZFS vs existing filesystem for SD-card
@mb21: I don't call that recent: "zpool version 8 and zfs version 2". The best I have seen so far is github.com/zfs-osx. This is still far from end user level.

ZFS is not properly supported by OS X (the best I have seen is beta level - as of feb-2014).

comment How to mount 20 year old IDE Drive in Linux
If it is really that old, it might be minix. Not sure nowadays kernel still carry compatibility for that fs.

comment Connect 2 Win 7 PCs via RS-232 DB9 serial cable
There is slight confusion here: you don't need IP connection if using Putty with "serial" mode ;)

comment Does the right half of the rsa public key matter?
This format seems openssh specific... but one of the most widely used. You can find some info about it in the openssh sshd manpage, in the "AUTHORIZED_KEYS FILE FORMAT" section.

comment Can I use an old netbook as a switch/router replacement?
And you will end adding a $50 switch to your laptop. Not really a good solution (event though it is a good exercice).

comment Is it possible to change the default field separator in awk?
Aliases such as this one are dangerous. The risk is that someday you will ask yourself: but why the heck is my awk not splitting using spaces ?

comment Notepad++ RegEx does not work with min and max occurence
No, \s is "always" a character class. So [\s] is the same as \s.

comment Setting up most secure personal computing environment possible
(1) is debatable, but openBSD is advertised as being security oriented , FreeBSD being more general oriented.

comment Which file-system is good for movable disk between many different OSs?
+1 with @Kimvais. There are fuse based ntfs and ext2/3 tools on FreeBSD.

comment Winscp and putty drop out constantly, on other computer they don't?
Same logic: connection -> keepalive settings (I edited my answer and add an example, through not tested).
