It's most likely a 64-bit mode issue. Switching iTunes to 32-bit mode fixes this for me.

If it hangs when you choose "Try" on an Ubuntu LiveCD, then it might be a problem with hardware other than the hard drive as the hard drive shouldn't be used to boot off the LiveCD. That was what made me suspect some other hardware issue. I could be wrong however!

You're not getting an IP of 169.254.x.x from your DHCP server. That is an "autoconf" IP address, your system generates that when DHCP fails. Check your DHCP server.

Last time I used Lingon was over 2 years ago. At the time it worked fine for me, but I haven't used the recent versons. Too bad it's not as reliable as it once was.
