@Bobby: Thanks a lot, your last edit contains the info I was looking for, the restart can be invoked with 'FvwmCommand Restart'. There is an imperfection though: To use FvwmCommand one has to spawn it first - with an entry in the very same fvwm2rc file :( However, this "update recursion" is acceptable. Servus!

I'm not sure if there is a misunderstanding... The restart works well if I select it from the fvwm menu, it is the behavior I want. But I want it from the command line, that is, from outside of fvwm itself.

At the beginning I'm logged in, but the command 'fvwm -replace' logs me out, I have to log in again after calling it, the same thing happens with 'killall fvwm'.

Thanks Bobby, but as I already stated, 'replace' does not work for me since I have to login again after that command. Unfortunately, it is the same with 'killall fvwm'.

What are you trying to tell me? I asked a simple, clear question. What I'm trying to do in detail is not relevant. Yes, like you, I would prefer such a perfect command line tool - like Linux' fdisk and mkfs. But since this is not Christmas I limited the criteria to CLI and free, if there is a perfect tool without overhead, I'm even more happy.

Yes, that would be ok. The CLI part is necessary for automation purposes. The paragon partitioning tool does offer scripting, but, like EaseUS, not for the free version.

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately you did not read and answer my question. EaseUS (with 'e') Partition Manager Home, which is the only free version, does not offer a command line interface. Thanks also for the ext2fsd info, but that's also not what the question is about.
