comment My application icons dissapeared after restoring (from backup), how to get them back?
Step 1 worked wonderfully well, and all icons are restored. Noted the information in point #2 as well. Does turning off "pre-caching" (I presume that's what that setting checkbox means) have any effect on performance ?

comment How can I write-protect a worksheet, while permitting link jumping to another worksheet to enter comments?
Thanks Teylyn, for taking time to answer. Unfortunately, MS Access or MS SQL is not something that our organization has licenses for, and it is not used here. We are a Linux software shop, Excel, Word, Powerpoint being pretty much the only thing from MS stable. However, I understand your point... I was just hoping to find something, that could at least, take me to particular col. of another worksheet...

comment How can I write-protect a worksheet, while permitting link jumping to another worksheet to enter comments?
Thanks for answering. That is precisely what I tried doing, but the comments are getting unwieldy. I am unable to perform change management properly with it. For instance, I would like to be able to sort by newest comments, but not lose the older ones. Also, I'd like to be able to filter by reviewer. The possibilities of manipulating comments as a standard Excel worksheet are much wider, compared to what I could do with comments alone.

comment Serial port sniffer / monitor / logger software for Windows 7, 64-bit?
@AmirrezaNasiri, if those are the only working alternatives, then I could go for hardware logger. Hardware loggers for USB-based devices (even though they use serial over USB), I think - are both complex and expensive, no ? Anyhow, open to suggestions.

@moses, done. Hopefully it is no longer a product recommendation query. OTOH, I hope an answer can be valid with a product recommendation, as a solution.

comment Outlook Notes replacement or alternatives?
+1 for Tomboy notes, though OneNote works for me... mostly.
