comment Correct way to disable indexing in Windows 7
@endolith Great idea. I'm going to try this using Mehrdad's answer below + task scheduler. To start/stop a service via commandline (rather than merely changing its startup value), you can type "net stop WSearch" or "net start WSearch".

comment Would hardware-related GPU artifacts appear over remote desktop?
So what would be the technical explanation for artifacts contained in the display buffer -- could that rule out GPU hardware damage? Would it not say one way or another if it's the GPU vs. other hardware? I don't understand the technical knowhow of artifacting and where along the line it happens.

Interesting, thanks. And so if artifacts could be captured and saved in a software screenshot, what would the technical underpinnings of this be?

comment Would hardware-related GPU artifacts appear over remote desktop?
@Ramhound I'm not asking this for helping troubleshooting my card -- I'm asking for understanding of the general technical principle (if GPU artifacts could manifest over virtual displays). In hindsight, I should've left out the extraneous information that made it look like I was merely wanting help to diagnose.

comment How to find who's dropping the connection?
@DavidPostill I'm assuming these commands basically show which node along the line is causing the problem? But sometimes nodes don't respond to the trace, even though they're working correctly, right? How can you tell whether a node is simply not providing info for the trace vs. not working entirely (or dropping the connection/packet)?

comment How to find who's dropping the connection?
@JourneymanGeek Interesting, had never heard of pathping. I've used and tried tracert, however, the destination isn't reachable -- there are 10+ entries of "No response" up until the end.

But if the browser is still set as the system default browser, won't the OS still know where to find it?

comment How to diagnose unconnectable port from client side?
It's possible -- this is on a friend's machine. Is there any way to tell who/what is dropping/blocking the connection?
