Where to find new Micro-BTX (uBTX) motherboards? Or should I just replace the box? I'm a software guy too, so I'm not an expert by any means. I'd have to assume the difference is the same as uATX to ATX... A few inches smaller in size. |

Where to find new Micro-BTX (uBTX) motherboards? Or should I just replace the box? The only catch is, you may need to find a MOBO that is somewhat similar, and not much of an upgrade... They won't allow you to transfer on a upgrade. I'm not sure what their stance is on obsolete tech. |

"This makes life difficult because the copy of Vista is an upgrade, tied to the copy of XP which shipped on the Gateway, which is OEM and won't install on the new box." Microsoft has a stipulation... Upgrades are tied to the OS they upgrade, and OEMs are tied to the MOBO... If the MOBO dies, phone Microsoft, and a lot of times they'll allow it to be transferred to a new MOBO, and the upgrade will still work fine on the transferred OEM. As for whether you need to reinstall for a new CPU, They should be Plug and Play. |

Is it okay for a new laptop battery to report 90% capacity? Though a different question, read the quote from the first answer... It seems pretty relevant. Is it better to use laptop on battery or on ac power? |

Mixing DDR2 module sizes I'd just go to 3Gb, then upgrade to 4Gb as soon as you can. 32 bit Windows will only use a little over 3Gb, but the Dual Channel is helpful, and it isn't really a waste, since the kernel still gets to access the additional RAM for hardware/BIOS stuff. |

Mixing DDR2 module sizes Not a severe penalty, but in order to have Dual Channel, both sticks need to be nearly identical (Size and speed). Mostly what you'll be losing out on is the additional bus bandwidth. It's nice, but its your choice if you want 3Gb or faster 2Gb or 4Gb. DDR2 is cheap these days. |
