I mostly program in Ruby, but have done a lot of Java, VB, C, and C++ over the years.

My company, ProjectLocker, provides free Subversion hosting, free Git hosting, and free Trac hosting.

comment Speed up VMs hdd perfomance
I'm not using Win 7. But you don't have to take my word for it; you can get benchmarks on your own hardware within an hour or two, if you need to install Linux first. It was hard for me to believe too, but my results were consistent.

Don't run a VM over USB, you will hate your life if you do. We used to keep our VMs on USB drives to make it easy to pass them around, etc. But trust me that this will only make the problem worse.

comment If a “forgot your password?” page emails your old password, is that definitive proof that they have stored it in plain text?
Sorry, mis-post. That should have been "two-way function".

As an aside, two-way hashes are considered by major banks to be secure enough for storing credit card information.

comment Should I be concerned if my Git hosting provider stores passwords in plaintext?
It would be awesome if someone could edit the title to not make false accusations about ProjectLocker. Thanks!

comment Why is iPhone mail much faster than Mail.app?
Also, Mail.app is syncing your entire mailbox. iPhone mail keeps some much smaller portion of your mailbox on the device (mine is 100 I think). So instead of syncing, it just downloads the latest 50 or 100 messages, which may require less data transfer.

Why not edit the answer to remove the incorrect 2nd sentence? Why annotate instead? It's clear that some people do not understand two-way functions; why confuse them with information that is definitively incorrect?
