If you need access to this account to register it, use this tool - then register, so you can stop creating new accounts every time.

comment Text editor for BIG files?
Incidentally, I've solved problems similar to yours by using a stream processor (something like SAX), an efficient in-memory representation of the data (XML DOM is not particularly efficient if you don't necessarily need to store a bunch of strings), and... Multiple, smaller XML files associated with an index file. Oh - and copious amounts of logging in the parser. Might not work for you, but sure as hell beats trying to work with massive XML files in a text editor.

comment Text editor for BIG files?
No, @Suzan, it's recognition of ignorance, and of the fact that folks who don't know how to solve a problem will often tend to come up with solutions that are overly complicated, impossible, or otherwise less than ideal. We've all done this, and we've all seen the amount of frustration and wasted time it can lead to... Therefore, it is desirable to spare others when possible.

comment If I buy a computer with Windows 8 and Secure Boot, will I still be able to install Linux?
It's not Microsoft that worries me here, it's the manufacturers. Sure, ARM devices might still be seen as toys now, but the various ARM platforms have come an awful long way in the past few years, and I can easily imagine a day when folks use them for more than just watching YouTube videos... Giving up the ability to update or replace the OS now seems short-sighted. That said, thanks for writing this up - it definitely helps clarify what is, and what isn't problematic about Secure Boot.

Hmm... That looks like a stock photo. Are you really cute, or is this nomination a sham? If you're not serious about this, stepping back in deference to those who are would be appreciated.

comment Mac OS X Lion: What are invalid characters for a file name?
Can you give us some context, Rodney? It would help a lot in answering this if we understood a little bit about what you're trying to do... AFAIK, there are a few potential issues: honest-to-god forbidden characters, characters that are impossible to enter as a path in a terminal shell, and characters that won't display properly in Finder.

Algorithm for recovering data after 35 passes: order Ryan's harddrive; wait for him to leave for the post office; break in and steal flash backups.

@Rory: no... But you gave me an idea: I wonder if Outlook is using the Restart Manager to accomplish this...

comment Issues with Unibody MacBook Line-In
Dear Mr. Lo'oris, Your title at present is very non-specific. To aid others in finding your question and learning from its answers, you should describe the problem you are experiencing in a clear and succinct manner in the title, and then expand on it in your question body. To that end, you should also try to clarify what you mean by "none of them worked" in your first sentence.

comment How can I view unformatted RSS XML in a browser?
@ericgr: I suspect you're talking about HTML embedded within the RSS. But, that's how RSS works - unlike Atom (which supports namespaced XHTML directly) HTML markup has to be encoded.
