comment How can I force a bookmark on the toolbar to use a specific favicon?
@Raystafarian The other solution (the I hate your favicon extension) is not practical either. It replaces the favicon on a per URL basis. I would need to replace the favicon for every comic I visit (too many to be practical) and I don't want their favicons replaced. Only the one favicon associated with the bookmark.

@Raystafarian The accepted solution on that question did not work. After visiting the URL it changed again to the comic's favicon instead of the tornexto favicon.

comment How can I make zsh's vi mode behave more like bash's vi mode?
It was under ^[/ not \e/, but those are both valid ways of saying escape. The change works perfectly. Now that I am playing with it more completely, it looks like zsh's vi mode sucks in comparison to bash's (or at least is not fully configured by default). One example of this is the fact that it drops you into insert mode after the searching history. I have to go back to command mode to hit n to find the next search item.

comment Different SSH/Login Password From SUDO Password
@johnshen64 I think he is objecting to the fact that the same password would be used for all users.

Yeah, I switched over about a month ago. I need to take a look at the new release it is bugging me about.

comment How can I transfer an image captured by gstreamer to another machine without writing a file?
The trick is getting the file contents to come out on stdout (thay is what I don't know, this is more of a gstreamer question than a how does ssh work question). The sshfs idea has merit though, that should be easy enough to setup

comment Is there a reason not to run bash as root?
@ghoppe explain the different md5sums. And the fact that running set -o vi turns off tab completion when run under sh, but not bash. Saying sh is bash ignores the fact that they behave differently, which is the point of this question. Why is OS X using sh, and is it unsafe to change it use bash. I don't doubt that they are both built from the same source, but they are not the same.

According to stat -f "%N: %i" /bin/sh /bin/bash, they aren't hardlinks of each other and an md5sum of the two files produces different checksums. Even if /bin/sh were a symlink or hardlink to /bin/bash, Bash checks the name it was run under and activates a compatibility mode if the name is sh.

@sleske Ah, good news, I saw that it was a web app and stopped looking. I will have to give it another look.

Good idea, but I am not guaranteed a network connection. I have changed the question to reflect this requirement.

I have started playing with S5, specifically Pod::S5 (search.cpan.org/dist/Pod-S5/S5.pm). It looks fairly nice, but I none of the default themes are to my liking and I don't really want to spend the time hacking up a CSS file to make it look nice. Right now it is my fall back position.

comment What does export do in BASH?
Can you point to any documentation to that affect. I am looking for more information than that. For instance, does a variable only need to be exported once, or do you need to export it after every change, etc.

@Dennis Williamson, yes, you are correct, that is a typo.

comment Why does cat not use options the way I expect UNIX programs to use switches?
That is an odd decision because they are documented to behave differently (number all lines vs number blank lines). If -n were documented to "number lines" without the word "all", I would agree with the code. Hmm, but looking at the BSD manpage it says "Number the output lines, starting at 1", so this is really just a problem with GNU cat's documentation.

comment What is a DART Iframe?
Yeah, the link I posted says something similar, and I understand what the file is, I want to know why it is called a DART Iframe, rather than just an iframe. @Quack Quixote seems to have found a reasonable expansion.

comment How do I make OS X set the terminal title back to the original title when coming back from ssh?
Well, I use iTerm.app not Terminal.app, and it is working. You do have a point about the real terminal. My Linux box has just such a check, so I will add it to my profile, thanks.

comment How can I edit the $PATH on linux?
It is important to note that there are many occasions your profile is not run (such as when a script is run by cron). If you need a specific path to be set in PATH, a script must set that path. That said, scripts should never rely on anything being in their paths and should always use absolute paths, anything else is a security issue.
