Once, I was a blogger. Now, I'm just a smartass who loves to type too much and answer questions of all sorts. Not that there's much difference.

I know I'm not the original questioner, but I never knew about Alt-PageUp/Down. Thanks!

comment eth0 always has 192.168.1.1 and ignored a network with a DHCP server
Agreed, my first instinct is to ask for the contents of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0.

comment Moved old drive contents between drives and now my profile is gone
First things first - have you removed the old external drive (X, in your example)? Does the new external drive (Y, in your example) have the same drive letter as X used to have? If not, this may cause issue with hard-coded paths that Windows likes to use (especially in the registry).

comment How to use Pendrive in a USB disabled Computer?
They have no way to know or verify that, however, without exposing themselves to unnecessary risk. It's not something that can be forcibly circumvented, nor should it be. You might want to consider a service along the lines of Dropbox instead.

Generally, if the functionality is disabled, it is disabled for a reason.

comment Copy lots of files ignoring errors
@VineetMenon Assuming that you mean the copy command, that's because it doesn't have the "continue in spite of errors" nature that the questioner is asking for. If you mean the Linux command cp, that's because the question is related to Windows 7.

comment Win XP - Disable highlighting when 'single-click to open an item' is enabled
Correct, but anything "selected" in Windows Explorer is highlighted. That's the nature of item selection.

comment Win XP - Disable highlighting when 'single-click to open an item' is enabled
I actually don't know that it's possible - the "select on hover" behavior is necessary when it's single-click-to-open, because otherwise, how would you select something without opening?

comment Make initial PuTTY configuration window larger
+1 for being bolder than I was and actually answering instead of commenting (and being 100% sure about it).

comment Make initial PuTTY configuration window larger
I do not believe that this is possible, but I do know that the fork of PuTTY known as KiTTY has a significantly larger configuration window and can create folders to sort your configuration entries into.

Thanks for the KB link for netsh advfirewall. That's handy.

comment Copy and paste in Windows PowerShell
That's strange, because I definitely just tried it myself just to make sure it was right, and it worked just fine.
