comment How do I get the Windows 7 taskbar with the Start Menu to display on dual monitors?
@nhinkle - That's fair enough. It's a good product - it's a shame the publishers couldn't just accept the recommendation without abusing it.

It may be that we can't have our proverbial 'cake and eat it' - But I just didn't want to give up without a fight.

Unfortunately, when I initially could not create the cross-workbook links, I did my homework, and the only solutions I found, insisted that I had to open the 2nd workbook, within the same Excel instance. I haven't found an alternative way of creating the necessary links.

The whole point of my first paragraph was to explain the background, including the reason why I can't open a second instance of Excel.

That 71.4C is Tcase - the temperature of the case of the CPU. The internal temperature (Tjmax) will typically be 10-120C higher than that, which is what most temperature reporting tools will give you. 95C under load is still too hot - but not as hot as you think.

comment Why doesn't Mozilla release 64-bit versions of Firefox?
What benefit will there be? What costs would there be? Surely the problems far outweigh the benefits? I've been using 64-bit windows since 2005, but even I can't yet seen the need. The nightly builds are simply keeping x64 on the back-burner for when they might be needed in future.

Try joining them both to a different workgroup, e.g. MSHOME. Clutching at straws here.. ;)

PS. While I appreciate the extra rep, you should really mark this question as unanswered. We don't want to disappoint someone else struggling with the same issue.

If you click on the Joined/Create against Homegroup, it should give you the chance to run a Homegroup troubleshooter. Also, can each machine see itself? Type '\\ThisMachine\c$\' on each machine. Then try '\\TheOtherMachine\C$' on each machine.

Sorry - limited time on here. What does the network and sharing center say for each? Home network? HomeGroup: Joined? What do you see if you click on the full network map (at the top)?

Nothing really... Sandy Bridge E is just coming out so that would be a step up, as would a GTX580 or 590, or a Radeon 5990...if you have more money than sense! But they will be out of date before you get them out of the box. You have a very good PC - use it properly... move the wife into the office.

In Windows Explorer, type in \\MyOtherPcName\ in the address bar and press return - this should show shared resources on this machine (e.g. printers). If it doesnt work, open a command prompt and type 'ping 192.168.0.99' (substituting the IP address of your other pc) - if this command responds with a timeout message, it means there is a connectivity issue.

I've added a link to a video demonstrating how to connect to a homegroup. Presumably, your 2nd machine can see the first under Homergoups?
