Ubuntu boot from HDD after USB installation I suspect your hardware may need extra tricks to get working. Google for ubuntu install [your laptop model] and try to see what others are doing. And good luck if your laptop is the new UEFI configuration. I've done 3 and all three were somewhat annoying to get Ubuntu to boot afterwards (similar to your situation). |

Ubuntu boot from HDD after USB installation Yes, that's why I suggest starting over with the USB installer. |

Ubuntu boot from HDD after USB installation If you don't need an encrypted partition, how about just trying a standard ubuntu install first to ensure everything CAN work. THEN go for the other crazyness. I've done 40+ ubuntu installs and that guide confuses ME. |

Can a single HDMI port be used for two external displays? Ah, you can look into getting a docking station, but yeah, laptop graphics cards aren't as awesome as most desktop ones. |

Can a single HDMI port be used for two external displays? If your DVI is DVI-D, it can run dual displays. But if your computer has both HDMI and DVI ports, this is a great way to get two separate monitors. |

How to lock Windows 7 session with just key strokes? This is a great question and should not have been down voted. +1 from me. |

Home Debian install no longer boots It's definitely a hardware problem and you'll need to weed through the logs to really know. IMHO, time to buy a $300 new PC and move your HDD over to it. When a "works everyday linux computer" stops working, it's the hardware. |

Finding a file I hid from myself @cpast, apologies for trying to expound upon martineau's comment, however, the real way would be to use the find command and imho, my answer there is pretty good. |

Windows boot loader to boot multiple OS You already have GRUB, you'll need to rewrite the MBR with windows. The top 2 links here are pretty good: google.com/search?oq=windows+boot+loader+dual+boot |

when moving Windows 7 (full retail) boot drive to new PC do upgrades and service packs get lost in the move? There isn't a repair. It will try to install and uninstall things automatically. I recommend you have the manufacturer's install DVD for the new motherboard handy; sometimes it's needed to get the ethernet port working and almost always needed for something about the PCI bus. |
