There are a bunch of ways you can do it; I wouldn't want people wandering around in my ~, certainly. But you could just create a folder, and chown it to a common group or something. No need to make a whole user...Just another set of passwords to remember.

And it'll tell you if you don't have permission to kill the process.

It should have a different process number if it is. So if you do ps -Al and you see processA, then you kill -9 processA, and then do ps -Al and there is STILL a processA in the process queue, make sure it's the SAME processA, and not a new one.

Agreed. We had a whole series of Dells from that era, and more than 90% of them had to be RMA'd for swollen capacitors. Those were nothing compared to THESE...I mean, you had to run your finger over the top of them to feel that they were swollen, and even at that point, they were non-functional.
