I have a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geoinformatics, with my main areas of study being Geography and Environmental Studies, GIS, Computer Science and Information Systems. I have always had a passion for computers and geography, so studying and working in the GIS field has given me the best of both worlds.

My questions/answers will be written in South African (UK) English - please do not "correct" my spelling.

comment How to remove Media Center from Windows 8
I also noticed that there was no restore point, so I ended up reinstalling and just leaving WMC completely.

comment Cubby will not DirectSync between two computers
Ok it turns out that even though I set the sync folder on my home PC (target) and switched it on, because my work pc (source) was not on and nothing had synced yet, the sync got switched off my home PC. It's working now.

The thing is, I honestly don't want WMC on the PC now, I just want to remove it. And if they say that I can get up to 5 keys, why are they simply resending me the same key?

comment Installing Windows 8 pro on a built PC
@JourneymanGeek I just need absolute certainty on this issue: I run Upgrade Assistant on my XP PC, purchase the upgrade then exit. I won't be installing Windows 8 on this PC. I then create a bootable USB of the Pro upgrade, start up my newly built computer which has no previous OS, and I'll be able to install Windows 8 as normal?

comment reinstalling vista product key
I'm from South Africa, is this why the telephone activation option is not showing in my activation options?

comment reinstalling vista product key
I've only done it about 4 times before, and according to the help files, I can activate as many times as needed as long as it's on the same hardware.

comment Installing Windows 8 pro on a built PC
@Karan So I could buy Windows 8 Pro, install it on my XP PC and upgrade using the XP key. Then I could install it on my sister's Windows 7 notebook, and upgrade it using her 7 key. Then I could install it on my newly built PC, and use the Window 8 key which came with it? Or would I have to first purchase the upgrade using the XP and 7 keys online, and then just install it afterwards (without having to download it again)?

Thanks for the link, but not really what I had in mind, as we all work in the same office and access the same server.

comment Desktop computer for GIS and home networking use specifications
Thank you @JourneymanGeek for your comment, I must have read through the FAQ too quickly and missed that (just saw that I could post a question regarding hardware and rolled with it). I have gotten excellent answers to this question over at gis.stackexchange.com anyway. I do have a problem I'm facing right now with my home network, with certain components not interacting the way the they should, but I will post a proper question for that.
