I am a system administrator, part of a team managing a set of very high traffic web sites. My primary interests are virtualization, Linux, databases, scripting, and windows.

comment Linux crontab script to “mysqldump | gzip” gives wrong filesize
so it is not finding your authentication information. are you using a config file? if so you need to explicitly specify it because in cron the environment is not your login shell environment. or you can add the username and password to your cron script, which is less secure.

comment How can my keyboard be fix
onscreen keyboard is in accessibility section of the start menu, if that is indeed the problem (as opposed to your physical keyboard, which you can test with a different one).

comment Don't have permission to set environmental variables via a script?
sourcing cannot change shell. if it is for zsh only, then the using shell has to be zsh or something compatible. they can run zsh first, then source the script, however.

yes, you are right. you can find a lot of instructions about windows 8/7 wifi hotspot setup, some even with video.

what is your desktop OS? check if it can be made into an ad hoc access point already. mac osx can, so does newer windows. you will need a wireless card or usb wireless adapter on the desktop in that case, if it does not have a builtin one.

comment VMware: what are the “vpxuser” and “dcui” user accounts for?
no, you do not set up anything. these are set up by the system and you should not touch them, period. you do not need to know as these accounts are only for the system, never for humans. as i said, unless you want to see what breaks when you change them, you should leave them alone, other than the case in which you are instructed by vmware tech support.
