comment How can I to free up drive space from the Windows installer folder without killing Windows 8.1?
I've been using the solution I posted now for 11 months and still no problems. I run updates constantly with Windows update, Secunia PSI, and other patchers, with full suites of Microsoft Office and developer products, VPN software, etc. The alternative I had was to repartition my drive, which means I would have to reinstall ALL software. I prefer to take my chances with "might hurt installer data."

Indeed, custom font encoding was the culprit for me. However, Chrome wasn't the solution. I solved the problem partially with Ghostscript regenerating a PDF from the PS (I was lucky to have the PS source). Any character groups to which LaTeX applies ligatures (e.g. ff, c, fi, etc.) don't show up in the copied text of the PDF, which requires some editing when you copy/paste.

comment How to convince Apple definitively that I don't want to install iCloud?
iTunes has an Advanced preference to "Check for new software updates automatically" which is enabled. I have tried disabling it to see what happens...

comment How to convince Apple definitively that I don't want to install iCloud?
I think I get the "spam" install request when I start iTunes, but I'm not entirely sure of when it happens.

QuickTime has to be installed for iTunes to work on Windows, if I'm not mistaken. So, disabling the updater would not be a good solution.

What about QuickTime (or is it also checked by iTunes on launch)?

OK, I realize I wrote "without uninstalling updater" but your answer practically does the same, no? That is, I want to keep getting updates (reminders to update) iTunes.
