comment How can I configure Firefox to assume I have less memory?
Perhaps try timeout (github.com/pshved/timeout) instead? It allows you to limit child processes also, which could be causing the error (i'm referring to Firefox's plugin container).

comment How can I configure Firefox to assume I have less memory?
I'm not aware of a Firefox setting to limit the entire applications memory itself, but you could manually do it in Linux using the setrlimit command (linux.die.net/man/2/setrlimit) or if you're uncomfortable doing that, you could use softlimit (cr.yp.to/daemontools/softlimit.html) to limit FF's RAM usage.

@PauloScardine - i suspect he's talking about Apache 2, given that the post is tagged as such :)

comment Comparing two video cards
Although this answer is correct, it is also worth pointing out that it is quite common for cards with higher amounts of VRAM to have LOWER clock speeds than their equivalents with less VRAM, so they do not always necessarily perform any better - it depends on the circumstances. Also, there are quite a few games available now that you cannot play at 1920x1200 with 1gb of VRAM.

comment How to update my bios in Windows XP
You cannot update a BIOS from directly within the OS. It has to be done with an external drive of some sort. You might be able to use a USB flash drive or a CD drive, but without more information, i could not tell you with any certainty if it is possible.

comment “Macro” app that starts on a timer for Win 7 Pro?
I haven't personally used it, but a colleague of mine used it to automate a task and found it extremely versatile. If it's a bit out of your price range, just search for "Macro Software with scheduler" and you will find plenty of alternative options (albeit a bit lighter on features).

comment Install Windows 7 from external USB hard disk
In that case, just build the bootable ISO you need including whatever software and update packages you want, and extract it directly onto the root of your external HDD. After that you can just configure whichever computer you're installing on to boot from the External HDD.

comment Install Windows 7 from external USB hard disk
Is there any particular reason it needs to be an external USB HDD, as opposed to a flash drive? You can have a 32bit and 64bit Win7 Ultimate install on a USB flash drive.

Bobert, there is some good documentation on merging specific datasets into a single workbook from multiple files at this link: rondebruin.nl/copy3.htm

comment Why does this card say DDR1 and DDR2, when only DDR1 fits?
Interesting, i wasn't aware of that. It seems you're right, there are a few boards that support DDR2 and DDR3.

comment Searching for content in a large number of Excel files
Unfortunately, i'm 99% sure that this is not possible without programming. There is certainly no featureset in Excel that can execute such a function. I'm not aware of a third party application that can do this either. The only thing i can think of is to merge all the excel files into one enormous file and extract the rows from there, although that seems impractical given the amount of files you're talking about.

comment How to acquire unique hardware ID of my computer?
By looking at the required components, and looking for a sticker that contains a barcode and or numbers. The serial number should be prefixed with something like "SN or "S/N".

comment How do I report email with malware from a friend without getting him blocked?
In that case you're out of luck. Gmail learns from how users categorise their email, so if you (and perhaps a few other people) designate it as spam, chances are it will end up being recognised as spam gmail-wide.

comment Emacs 24 + Synergy client on Mac OS X, why doesn't the server's keyboard control key work?
It's perfectly possible this is a bug. Historically, i have found all kinds of weird bugs with the keyboard and Synergy. Have you tried posting on the official Synergy Foss Question site?
