comment Case Sensitive drive, can't install illustrator
I know it's not a direct solution, but unless you really need the case sensitivity, it may be worth taking the hit now and redoing your core partition as vanilla HFS. Adobe products aren't the only ones that'll choke.

comment Why is enterprise hard drive capacity so limited?
In the case of personal storage (as in, heading down and picking up a new TB drive) is that you're getting just a bit of metal. In an enterprise context, odds on you've got to pay for backup hardware, extra capacity on your backups/archival systems to meet your legal requirements for data retention, extra management costs for your IT support team to maintain and monitor etc etc. Then there's the cost for any downtime to provision the stuff etc etc. Not saying that it HAS to be expensive mind you..

comment Can I change the “settings” of my Mac computer remotely via ssh / remote login?
I'll have a play around with my macbook on your bonus q, but but first thoughts are: remote login could wake your mac if it's cabled and you have the wake on network access option selected. If it's on wifi, I don't believe it works, but never actually checked. And I don't think terminal commands will prevent sleep mode from occuring (it definitely doesn't stop dimming), but again, not something I've tested.

Just as well to add in more linky-type refrences, this is actually in an MSKB 92297 which tells you to make the change and gives explanation why it flames out (basically, on install time, it disables any drivers it didn't need, but since you've enabled the raid controller, it needs to be told load up iastore.)

comment What's the proper way to unplug a power cord?
With the projector, the "don't unplug it suddenly" warning tends to be more due to needing to run a correct power down cycle to cool the stupidly hot bulb to a safe temp from memory. If deprived of power, you get a very hot bulb and no active cooling - which could fry/melt/make bad whatever is near the blub (particularly if you put it back in the carrying case)

Do you have an example of the fonts that demo the problem? Am curious so might try replicate it here and have a bash..

comment Get an alert when my parents browser reach a certain domain
Just as a low-tech approach, could you not flip the hosts file to redirect to a page that says to come and call you, and then when you get there, you can restore the original hosts file, and watch what they do?

comment How to use rupee symbol in Dell keyboard?
Not sure if it'll have any impact, but in your localisation settings, are you using the correct keyboard layout? Without seeing the system, I'd bet you're using a keyboard layout where the Alt-Gr set isn't mapped... as a temp workaround - it's U+20B9 if you want to locate it in Charmap or alt-8377 on the numeric keyboard (note: that's alt, NOT alt-gr).. ah, and I'm assuming you're talking about the new symbol, and not the old Rs symbol too..

comment Is there a way to make my hard drive inaccessible to everyone but me?
Ah, random data :D Just like that bit in Cryptonomicon (more detailed reference not included cause it'd spoil one of the fun bits..)

comment Logging individual application network usage in Windows 7
Ah, cool :D I must admit I was a bit uhm/ahh about putting this up since it's not a direct solution, but I figured anyone who stumbles across it might find the info useful (and more people being curious enough to rip into their network traffic is never a bad thing.. right?)
