comment Can I fool Windows into thinking a virus scanner is installed?
That having been said, ClamAV or MSE (windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/…) aren't going to slow down any computer made in the last decade except when running full scans, and they're both free. You owe it to yourself to use an antivirus - your computer will be more secure for zero work.

comment Why is my Dell Vostro 3500 overheating? The internal temperature is around 75 C
That's what I meant, yeah - hold something against the blades. You got my hopes up that laptop fans had a switch or something that locked the fan so you could clean it.

By "lock the fan in place", is there an actual way to do that or should you just push something up against the blades so they don't spin? That what I always do.

GIS it, you'll see. The capacitor is literally expanded, it bulges outward. This is a strong sign that the magic smoke has escaped.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I was strongly agreeing with you, sorry if that's didn't come out right.

90% of the time, something isn't plugged in. No matter how much experience you have or how many builds you've done.

Why do you want to do this? There might be some better solution you haven't come across yet, depending on why you need to clone disks over the network without making images.

Does the PSU have one of those 4-pin connectors? It's probably hanging off the 20-pin connector if there is one, that goes into the last 4 pins on the mobo. Can you boot from anything? For example, could you boot from an install CD or live USB key?
