comment How to display/change the owner of a file on Windows 7
@palehorse did icacls <filename> /setowner <username>. got <filename>: Access is denied.. was running cmd.exe in Asminstrator: mode. Filename was like foo.png, username was like John. Filename was taken from cmd.exe. Username was taken from explorer.exe GUI and matched the directory name in the \Users directory.

comment How to prove the authenticity of a screenshot?
@HagenvonEitzen you actually have a good way to prove to some degree the authenticity of your screenshot. That is something to say. To use this to prove claims about a third-party is a totally different issue. For that you need to go steps further. Eg. proving that a certain IP responds with payloads including a certain data, to certain requests at a given time frame. Or: what way could property A be proven about entity B about a given time period C. You should raise a different question(s) about it.

comment TAR vs CPIO, what is the difference?
ktf said: only cpio may read the format of tar. you've said: BSD tar uses libarchive under the hood, so it can handle cpio, pax, shar. isn't that a contradiction?

comment How to set up Firefox to absolutely never to delete any history items?
so do you think places.history.expiration.max_pages (1) is more effective than places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages (2) that I've already set in OP? why? specifically what links const PREF_MAX_URIS = "max_pages"; to (1), but avoids (2)? I shall either confirm that (1) and PEX__loadprefs() is effective or confirm that if I shrink free space to 0, history remains with (1) set but goes with (1) unset.

It's in v4. change blames 30fcd9794eb2 2010-01-15 "part10", bugging 520165 targets mozilla1.9.3a1 refs Places async expiration. closest thing I found in bookmarks is GECKO193a3_20100315_RELBRANCH which was tagged with FIREFOX_4_0b11_RELEASE since 2011-02-03. I confirm 4.0b11 has this logic.

comment Unplugging USB hard drive can damage computer? Seriously?
why are they mixing this shit with useful text? they could just have a 30 page manual and a 6000 page listing of simple sentences one per line which say "if you do <A>, your warranty is void".

comment Shortcut or button to toggle space or tab as subsequent indentation character in Notepad++?
@NigelTouch it's a plausible theory, yes. I have no idea how to toggle the global 'replace by tab' setting, yet.

comment launching applications from the Windows command prompt?
@Javier also, I think start creates a new second window for the command and will not wait in the first window for the second one to finish. So in this case doing pause is tricky.

comment launching applications from the Windows command prompt?
@Javier the /D for the start command, and the -w for the psexec command take care for changing directory. So cd is unnecessary. As for pause, it is useful for manual execution from windows double-clicking to see the output. However from script or from cmd it could stop the script. Even manually I'd prefer running from total commander's prompt and adding |more or 2>&1 |more to its end, the latter showing also the standard error stream. (Actually I use |less from unxutils). If you go with cd you could end the .cmd with a new line @exit /b %errorlevel% to return the exit code.

JUCheck was designed for computers with a single user who is an administrator. how do you know it? is this a guess, reading, something you were involved with, or what? Just asking out of curiosity.

@JourneymanGeek nice attempt to educate as well as you have the edit button too. luckily I simply hate (read: personally perceive as irritating. I do not actually hate anything.) the fancy of saying to frown (up)on as if people should follow implicit ideas gained from anyone frowning, what a joke, so the good thing is this inspires me to take a move and bring content on the site! So now it's onsite. :)
