comment Still receiving windows XP updates… Is this expected behavior?
If a malicious program was trying to trick you into installing their software, it wouldn't look like a native window. If it was a native window, why would the malware bother asking you to install their software?

The real question is why you are still using Windows XP?

Not to mention that 2 bytes could be saved by just using http:example.com instead of http://example.com It may not seem like a lot, but they add up. Google receives millions of searches a day. How many links are on a page? At least 20. That means for a million searches, if the slashes weren't needed, 20 MB of bandwidth could have been saved.

@nikoo28 I doubt it was something with Hyper-V then. Turning it on must have triggered some other process that fixed up your system. Or maybe it was a coincidence.

I'm having the same problem! It's so annoying! I've tried a plethora of "solutions". I've moved my pagefile to another drive, I've tried setting it to twice my RAM amount. I've tried xperf, and got what seems to be consent.exe being the culprit; so I tried disabling the UAC. I've tried disabling SuperFetch. I've tried disabling Windows Update. I've tried disabling Defender (MsMpEng.exe was reading every file). I've defragged my drive. I've ran chkdsk /f_multiple_ times. Nothing has worked. I suspected my drive is dying, but my SMART readings are all fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

comment How does my ISP (introducing vectoring) know which DSL modem I am using?
Isn't killing your connection while still charging you a breach of contract worthy of a lawsuit though?

@Mokubai Simple! Make your own hard drives! Then you don't have to deal with RoHS and all the other annoying legal requirements! ;)

Except MAC spoofing is dead simple.

comment Compressing with RAR vs ZIP
A more simple solution is to use something like Dropbox where you don't have a size limit or executable attachment problem.

comment Why do English characters require fewer bytes to represent than other alphabets?
Your problem is that you are using UTF-16 or something and not the better, more space-saving UTF-8.

comment What can I do with .chk files in FOUND.000 folders?
You can always open them in a hex editor and look at them. If you can tell what they are (like a text document you were typing up), then you don't need to go through the trouble of worrying if something is lost.
