It is Win 8.1 64 bit. The new card is a USB\VID_7392&PID_7811&REV_0200 . The built in wifi cards hardware ID is PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4331&SUBSYS_00D6106B&REV_02 and PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4331&CC_028000

That driver is the same one that I posted in the question. It didn't work for me unfortunately. I followed the steps

In the device manager, it says "broadcom 802.11n network adapter". Device status: "this device is working properly". No yellow exclamation point. But when I go to control panel > network and internet > network and sharing center > change adapter settings, the wifi connection is disabled. I can't enable it. There's no icon on the taskbar because it's not enabled :(

Same issue @PJJ. I didn't have the yellow exclamation point, so I uninstalled the existing driver. Then I followed your steps above. Same issue. Everything looks fine, but I can't enable the device. So then I can't connect to wifi

comment Remote desktop sessions - can you be active and idle at the same time?
So 'active' and 'idle' time of 5, that means the user is logged on but hasn't moved the mouse/keyboard in the remote desktop session for 5 minutes?

I can never log in on the first attempt from remote desktop. But I can on the second. So I don't think that this setting would matter - do you agree? @JorgeMoura

comment How can I create a desktop shortcut to windows mail in windows 8?
@techie007 to my understanding, based on that thread, you can only configure windows mail as the default mail client. You can then create a shortcut to start a new email, but not open the app in general - i.e. to your inbox, which i think would be how most apps would work

@Ramhound I thought it may be a bad idea to change that, but if I didn't, I figured I wouldn't be pushing the envelope enough. is the default trusted installer?

comment Configure AVG free to work with logmein.com free
AVG free doesn't have a firewall! When I open it, the firewall button has a label 'activate now', which when I click on it, prompts me to purchase it. AVG free isn't what it used to be... Suggested a better free AV that works with Logmein wasn't the answer I was expecting, but I guess it would be good to enough to mark as answer!

@Karan pdftk4all is just a gui for pdftk. Anyway, I tried it from the command line as you suggested and got the same result - the file size is 90 MB. Feel free to try it on the PDF at devnet.kentico.com/docs/KenticoCMS_DevGuide.pdf. Seems like your solution works on some PDFs, but not this one unfortunately

@Darius I tested it out and it does seem like a very time consuming, but viable solution. Why did you submit it as a comment?

@Karan I just figured out how to have pdftk4all split the PDF, and each file is the same size as the original, even though they only contain a subset of the pages. Not sure why though...
