comment Extensions to import ICS events to Google calendar
Also, I rarely want a "new calendar". Most sites that generate ICS files are producing a single event. I just want to add that event to my normal calendar, not create yet another calendar.

comment Extensions to import ICS events to Google calendar
I can't speak for the OP, but I'd say: convenience. I don't want to save an ICS file, find the place in Google Calendar to import it, re-upload the file, and finally have to remember to delete the downloaded file. I want one click operation: when an ICS file is sent to my browser I want it sent to Google Calendar with the option to discard or save the new calendar entries.

I've finally managed to fix this. It turns out that my .bashrc was doing something screwy. I still don't know why this would cause X11 to break in the way it did.

@ephemient I have now tried XQuartz, and also MacPorts' xorg-server, and none of these configurations work. Please see the update to the question.

No. I'm open t trying it out, though I'd like to know why the stock X11 is failing.

comment How to I set up nfs using the Drobo Unfsd app?
"since the DroboFS isn't too careful with permissions (it does all of its work as root)..." Yikes! I was thinking about getting a Drobo, but I think you may have convinced me not to.

comment Anyone knows a RSS client with customizable update interval?
How quickly are items dropping off the bottom of the feed document in question? Google Reader typically crawls feeds at least once every few hours (and even more frequently if they ping or use PubSubHubbub). If you're publishing a feed it's generally a good idea to make sure items stay in the feed document for at least 24 hours.
