comment Remove linux file named with set of shell responsive characters
@Alex if your program's environment has a library function to shell-escape strings, you should use that. If you're in an interactive shell environment with tab-completion, I find that extremely handy for operating on files with weird names!

comment When data gets deleted from your Recycle Bin, what happens to it?
@Mark not quite, I believe - there's a 'recycle bin' folder on every drive (is it .$TRASHES? can't remember), and Windows combines all of them when you open the Recycle Bin. So your C: drive and E: drive both have a folder, because Windows doesn't want to copy everything when you delete it (that's the whole point!).

comment How do I get out my embedded Windows 8 key from a Linux environment?
Yup, that works too - I put hd in my answer because it displays the binary data too, so you have a clearer separation of where it starts.

Hm - two things. (1) why are you on 13.10, it's september 2014. And (2) - does the folder /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/ exist? Possible that you have something mounting it somewhere else (or not at all).

comment ANSI to UTF-8 in Notepad++
Note that, in general, "UTF-8 without Byte Order Mark" is what you want. As several others have said in the past, "UTF-8 is the only useful string encoding."

@DanielB All you need to do is call MS and confirm that you are, in fact, installing Windows on the same computer as the one you were sold.

comment How do I disable an Outlook 2013 add-in without starting Outlook?
I personally wouldn't do this - if it was an actually malicious addin (as opposed to a crashing addin by a legitimate company), it's possible that it would have used those administrator privileges to further compromise your system.
