No, you cannot do that I'm afraid, when you try to reopen the document, Word will say it is corrupt. Word keeps track of all of the resources embedded in the zip.

comment How can I see when the txt file was embedded to a word document?
It would only work for future occasions as the script would be keeping track of the date by saving the current date in a document field when you embedded a file via the script.

comment How can I read out internal pdf creation/modified date with Windows PowerShell?
You can also do this without an extra library since the XMP metadata is likely to be embedded and accessible as text.

See my comment about a possible work around though. If you know VBA or have access to someone who does, the information could easily be tracked.

Oops, assumptions will be the death of me! You are correct that all 3 timestamps are the same and are updated when you reopen the document. This is due to embedding being the old fashioned OLE binary format. Sad to say that the information you seek is not stored in the document. See my update.

For future reference, the details go in the question and the thanks can go in the comments :) This is to help the questions and answers be useful references over time without being cluttered.

comment simple web page to control some http rest api functions
JQuery has an XMLparse function as does PHP of course. The complexity of the question is really exceeding a sensible answer here I think. If nothing else, this needs to be moved to Stack Overflow.

;) Well it is a start, thanks for being kind! It wasn't clear from the Q that you needed to batch up tasks like that - so I'd agree that my answer is not brilliant! That is more complexity though.
